THE SUMMER SHOW SATURDAY 25TH JUNE
2PM
WETTERN
TREE
GARDEN, PURLEY
OAKS
ROAD
Show time again:
how quickly it seems to come around and, once again, its time for my
annual plea - PLEASE ENTER! Just one entry per household would fill
that very expensive marquee and make all the hard work done by your
committee worthwhile. It should be an interesting show this year after
all the hot dry weather that we have had. As usual, the judges will be
looking for three things; size, condition and uniformity. Dont worry
if you have never entered before, there will be plenty of friendly
members to advise you on the Saturday morning. Entries and last years
cups (polished) please by Wednesday 22nd June to 5
Riddlesdown Avenue or 12 Heathhurst Road, or details of your entries by
e-mail (details in the schedule). It does help us to know in advance
how many entries to expect in each class so that we can set up the
marquee accordingly.
The show will open
at 2pm on 25th June with all the traditional attractions;
teas on the lawn, brass band, childrens entertainer, plant sale,
charity stalls and your wonderful exhibits. Do come. If you can spare
some plants for the plant stall, or have some domestic goodies left
over, they will be gratefully received and sold to help to defray our
costs. As always, vandalism is a worry over the weekend. If you live
nearby and notice the local idiots at work during the evenings, would
you please call the police who are aware of the show. We would
appreciate some help from strong men on the evening before the show from
6.30pm, and on the morning of the show, to help erect the gazebos and
shift tables - we aim to start at 8.30am. Also after the show, help
would be greatly appreciated.
Once again, a big
thank you to all who helped and supported the May plant sale. We raised
£247.50 and, again, thanks to John and Valarie Canning for the use of
their lovely garden. I must also thank Alan Cotton for his valuable
contribution of plants; bedding, tomatoes and iris. Your help is very
much appreciated Alan.

Chairman

RAINFALL
Kathleen Davies recorded just 3mm (0.12) of rain for the whole month of
April. For May up until the 20th it is just 8mm (0.31) A
very serious situation for us here in the South East of the country.
Temperatures, too, are
interesting for April; the average low and high figures for 2011 are
the highest since John Morris began keeping records in 1983. For 2011,
high 62.9F (17.2C) and low 48.8F (9.3C). For 2010, high 58.2F (14.5C)
and low 43.6F (6.4C).
